My Hip Replacement and Infection Recovery

My Journey with Hip Replacement and Returning to Work

On July 24th, 2024, I underwent a full hip replacement at Duke University. For the first ten days, everything seemed to be going well with my recovery. However, around the two-week mark, I began to notice that something felt off. Despite following all the recovery steps, I wasn’t improving as expected.

It wasn’t until five weeks after the surgery that I was diagnosed with an infection in my hip. This unexpected news was difficult to process, and it meant a second surgery was needed. On August 30th, 2024, I had a hip revision surgery to help clear the infection. Since then, I’ve been on IV antibiotics to ensure the infection is fully treated.

My last day of work was July 19th, and I’ve been away from the business since then to focus on my healing. It’s been a challenging road, but I’m happy to share that as of today, October 7th, I’m planning to slowly return to work. I’ll be easing back into things with 10-15 hours per week, primarily on weekdays.
